Sive, Paget & Riesel has been a leader in the practice of environmental law since the early 1960's.

Today, Sive, Paget & Riesel is a full service environmental law firm, representing clients in matters involving: environmental litigation, environmental impact review, permitting, compliance counseling and environmental audits, defense of criminal investigations and prosecutions, civil enforcement defense, land use development and zoning, government-sponsored developments, hazardous waste cleanups, environmental bankruptcy, defense of toxic tort litigation, transactional due diligence, wetlands regulation, regulatory takings litigation, and alternative dispute resolution.

Sive, Paget & Riesel's diverse client base includes major corporations, numerous federal, state, and local governmental agencies and municipalities throughout New York State and beyond, and heavyweight environmental organizations, such as the Sierra Club, the Natural Resources Defense Council, and smaller, local environmental groups.

Sive, Paget & Riesel takes its commitment to providing pro bono services seriously. Currently, the firm is general counsel to the "Green Guerillas", a community gardening advocacy group, and also accepts referrals from the New York Lawyers For The Public Interest. All of our attorneys are encouraged to spend time handling pro bono matters.

Our legal staff includes former federal and state enforcement attorneys and faculty of law and graduate schools, many of whom are frequent lecturers and panelists at national and state environmental law conferences. Two of Sive, Paget & Riesel's senior principals, David Paget and Daniel Riesel, are former Assistant U.S. Attorneys for the Southern District of New York. A third, David Sive, who is known as the "father of environmental law" for his involvement in many landmark environmental cases, has been a leader in the Sierra Club and was one of the founders of the Natural Resources Defense Council. All of Sive, Paget & Riesel's attorneys are regular contributors to professional and academic journals and periodicals. Two principals, Daniel Riesel and Steven Barshov, are adjunct Professors of Law at Columbia Law School and Brooklyn Law School, respectively.
