Each year, the New York City Environmental Law & Leadership Institute (NYCELLI) honors one attorney who has, over the course of a remarkable career, been responsible for significant environmental progress in New York City through litigation, advocacy, and policy. This year’s honoree was Mark Chertok, a principal at Sive, Paget & Riesel P.C.
Mark has been honored by SuperLawyers, Chambers USA, and Best Lawyers as a top New York environmental attorney, and this accolade from NYCELLI demonstrates his significance to the New York City environmental law community. Mark’s major New York City projects include the environmental impact review of the Bayonne Bridge Navigational Clearance Program, which he successfully defended in a legal challenge and the Queens West Development project, including the environmental impact review, hazardous materials remediation, and cost recovery litigation under CERCLA. Mark also worked on the Columbia University expansion in Manhattanville and advised developers of numerous brownfield redevelopment sites throughout the five boroughs.
Mark accepted the award earlier this summer, and gave the keynote address at the 2016 NYCELLI Graduation Luncheon. NYCELLI, which was founded in 2007, is an annual seminar for a select group of new environmental attorneys committed to leadership in the field and making a positive contribution to the City’s environment. The following SPR attorneys have graduated from NYCELLI: Adam Stolorow, Victoria Treanor, Katherine Ghilain, Jonathan Kalmuss-Katz, Margaret Macdonald, and Devin McDougall.
